As well as learning everything to do with the body, of how it moves, bones, muscles, heart, etc. We also
done nutrition.
Nutrition plays an important role in life, to make sure we are giving our body what it needs, but also when
your exercising too. A lot of weight loss exercising is down to a good diet, and when that is right, you will
get the results you are after.
Your body requires certain amount of essential nutrients to maintain a healthy diet. In larger amounts:
proteins, fats, carbohydrate (fibre) and water. With smaller amounts: vitamins and minerals.
PROTEIN role - for growth and repair, but also for our digestive system. Some hormones are protein for
example insulin is a hormone that controls blood glucose (sugar) levels. Antibodies are proteins, produced
by white blood cells and move directly into the bloodstream to fight infection.
A source of energy of which meat, eggs, fish, nuts are eaten.
FATS role - for protection of internal organs, heat and growth. Fat provides a store of insulation and for
energy. Oestrogen is also for stimulating the activity of bone making cells (osteoblasts) that are
responsible for bone growth. If a breakdown of bone growth, there is a risk of osteoporosis. Food types,
meat, fish, avocado.
CARBOHYDRATES (fibre) - is the main source of energy, internal energy. There are two types of
carbohydrates: complex-starchy : simple-sugars.
Complex-starchy and fibres: wheat, oats, potatoes, rice, beans.
Simple-sugars: jam, fruit, honey, energy drinks, milk.
Fibre - food in wholegrain cereals, bread, fruit and vegetables. They keep you feeling full for longer, slows
the absorption of glucose and regulates blood sugar, binds to bile acids and lower cholesterol.
WATER - is essential to life and most important of all nutrients we need, because around 60-70% of our
body is water. Water provides the transportation system of the body. It moves everything, like nutrients,
oxygen, vitamins and minerals to where they are needed. And plays a major role in maintaining the body
at a constant temperature. Its also very common of not having enough fluid, in your body.
VITAMINS are chemicals found naturally in food, with the exception of vitamin D which can get through the
action of sunlight on the skin. Vitamins cannot be made by the body and must be provided by the diet.
They are needed in small amounts to perform specific functions.
So in order to help you with nutrition, I will require an accurate food diary provided by yourselves.
